Recent Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) draws have been reported mainly by their cut-off scores: 731 in Draw #278 (August 27, 2026) for trades and transport occupations, 825 in Draw #279 (September 10, 2026) for Manitoba graduates, and 760 in Draw #280 (September 24, 2026) for STEM workers. To see where your own profile stands against these figures, you first need to understand how the Expression of Interest (EOI) score is built.
The MPNP EOI score is a separate system from Express Entry's CRS. It is scored out of 1,000, and its weighting is very different: the Manitoba-connection factor alone accounts for half of the available points. This article is based on the official points grid published on immigratemanitoba.com.
What an EOI is and who it applies to
An EOI is an online profile created on the MPNP Online portal. It is not an application. The ranking system applies to the Skilled Worker Stream (Skilled Worker in Manitoba and Skilled Worker Overseas) and the International Education Stream. The Business Investor Stream has its own EOI process.
A profile is valid for one year, and you may only have one active profile at a time.
Information must remain accurate. False or misleading information can lead to refusal and a two-year ban on submitting a new EOI.
The highest-ranked candidates receive a Letter of Advice to Apply (LAA). The number of LAAs per draw depends on annual targets and processing capacity.
The MPNP may limit or exclude occupations with high inventories or a limited employment outlook.
The six factors
1. Language (max 125). Points are awarded per band (reading, writing, listening and speaking): CLB 8+ earns 25, CLB 7 earns 22, CLB 6 earns 20, CLB 5 earns 17, CLB 4 earns 12, and CLB 3 or lower earns 0. A second official language at CLB 5+ adds 25.
2. Age (max 75). Ages 21 to 45 earn the full 75 points. Points fall to 40 at 46, 30 at 47, 20 at 48, 10 at 49, and 0 from 50. Ages 18 to 20 earn 20, 30 and 40 points.
3. Work experience (max 175). This counts full years in the last five years, using only jobs held for six months or more at 30+ hours per week, with no rounding up. One year earns 40, two years 50, three years 60, and four or more years 75. Full recognition by a Manitoba licensing body in a regulated occupation adds 100.
4. Education (max 125). A master's or doctorate earns 125. Two post-secondary programs of at least two years each earn 115. A single program of three or more years earns 110, a two-year program earns 100, and a one-year program or trade certificate earns 70.
5. Adaptability (max 500). Every candidate needs at least one Manitoba connection, and only the highest-scoring connection counts. A close relative in Manitoba earns 200. Six months of authorized work in Manitoba earns 100. A Manitoba post-secondary program earns 100 for two years or more and 50 for one year. A close friend or distant relative earns 50. Manitoba Demand is worth 500: either six months or more of ongoing employment with a long-term job offer from the same employer, or an invitation under a Strategic Recruitment Initiative. Settling outside Winnipeg adds 50 when combined with another connection, but not with Manitoba Demand.
6. Risk (max -200). Work experience in another province costs 100 points, and studies in another province cost another 100. A close relative elsewhere in Canada, or a previous application to another province, does not reduce your score, but both must be declared.
Two worked examples
Example 1: Manitoba graduate working in the province. This candidate is 27, has CLB 7 in all four bands, holds a two-year Manitoba diploma, has one year of full-time experience, and is still employed with a long-term job offer: 88 + 75 + 40 + 100 + 500 = 803 points. That is above the 760 cut-off in STEM Draw #280 and below the 825 cut-off in graduate Draw #279. Each draw targets a different group, so one draw's cut-off does not transfer to another.
Example 2: Applicant in Vietnam with a sibling in Winnipeg. This candidate is 33, has CLB 8 in all bands, a four-year bachelor's degree, and five years of experience: 100 + 75 + 75 + 110 + 200 = 560 points. Without Manitoba Demand points, a profile close to the maximum on language, education and experience still scores well below the 2026 cut-offs.
Practical steps
Calculate your score against the official grid before submitting, and save your EOI Summary Report.
Review your language results band by band. Moving one band from CLB 7 to CLB 8 adds 3 points.
Declare any study or work in other provinces accurately.
Track cut-offs by stream and occupation group on Manitoba's Expression of Interest Draws page.
Update your EOI when your circumstances change.
